Israel Policy Forum mourns the passing of Amos Oz z”l, one of Israel’s literary giants and a strong voice for peace and reconciliation with Israel’s Palestinian neighbors.

Oz’s life tracked that of the nascent state of Israel. He was born in Palestine during the British Mandate and witnessed firsthand the founding of the State. He fought in both the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War.

An accomplished and prolific writer, Oz was the recipient of the Israel Prize among many other honors that were bestowed upon him in recognition of his literary genius. Oz was also firmly committed to peace with Israel’s Arab neighbors and was a vociferous proponent of the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

As we mourn the passing of this great man, we rededicate ourselves to his vision of two states for two peoples. May his memory be a blessing and an inspiration.
