Israel Policy Forum (IPF) is deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and longtime colleague, Dr. Stephen P. Cohen, z”l. As an IPF National Scholar for many years, Steve was our intellectual founding father.
In his work with IPF, including his regular conference call briefing series, he served as our guide through the ever-changing complexities of the Middle East. His deeply thoughtful analysis and his dogged pursuit of creative opportunities to advance a lasting peace served to inform and inspire our work.
As a practitioner for peace, Steve understood the importance of building relationships and trust. He will, of course, be remembered for the critical and historic roles he played behind the scenes to foster the Israel-Egypt peace treaty and to establish dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians, efforts he described in his recently published memoir, “The Go-Between: Memoir of a Mideast Intermediary.” We will remember him as a friend, colleague and mentor.
His memory is a blessing and an inspiration to all who seek peace.
